Ora’s Amazing Herbal All Purpose Salve, Touchy Skin Salve, Lip Balms: How To Soothe Eczema, Sunburn, Allergic Reactions With Natural Ingredients
Before we bring our lipstick or eye cream to the check out line, the one thing we’re all doing is looking at the label. We’ve been programmed to always be mindful of the actual ingredients we’re putting on our face/body. Buzz words like “organic” and “all-natural” have invaded packaging of most products like never before. Mind you, it can get a bit confusing and daunting checking labels constantly, not entirely sure what we’re supposed to be looking for…
Fear not! We chatted with Sophie Uliano, the leading Natural Beauty Expert and influencer on how women take care of themselves and what they buy. Sophie is also a best-selling author of Gorgeously Green, 8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life and The Gorgeously Green Diet, Do It Gorgeously. She’s also made appearances as a guest speaker on television shows including The View, Good Morning America, and The CBS Early Show to inspire women across America to live a healthier and more satisfying life.

BeautyStat: Are expired skincare formulas bad for your skin?
SU: Yes! They will be ineffective at best or may have oxidized, which can create free-radicals on your skin.
BeautyStat: Is it true that ingredients mentioned first are the most potent? If parabens are last is it still okay to use?
SU: From my perspective, when it comes to parabens it’s the long-term use over time that you want to be mindful of. I always recommend looking for alternatives to parabens and any other compounds that may disrupt your endocrine system. I do think reading the first four ingredients of any product is a really way to start being more informed about what you are using in or on your body.
BeautyStat: What are the best/worst ingredients for our skin?
SU: I recommend avoiding artificial fragrances and fragrance, in general, as well as parabens. Look for products made with cold-pressed organic plant oils and plant butters. Also, check out the company you are buying from by visiting their website.
Jao Hand Refresher Sanitizer And Goe Body Oil – Healthy, Natural, All-Purpose Products
Do they share the same values as you? Are they concerned with your health and the health of the planet? Are they cruelty-free and practice no animal testing? Do they provide ingredients lists that explain their formulations? Do they give back to the community? These are the questions I ask as part of my process in figuring out which products to buy.
BeautyStat: How do you correctly read an ingredients label?
SU: First, less is always more when it comes to reading ingredient labels. It’s important to know what’s inside the products that are part of your daily routine. So when you look at those labels, focus on how many ingredients they have and what purpose they serve.
When you think about toothpaste, for example, which goes in our mouth daily, look for a natural brand with no artificial ingredients, sweeteners, dyes or bleaching chemicals. I like Tom’s of Maine Simply White, which whitens teeth naturally by gently removing surface stains.
BeautyStat: Do organic products have a shorter shelf life?
SU: Not necessarily. It all depends on the preservative system used. However, organic oils and oil-based serums have a good, long shelf life when kept in a cool, dark spot. You should always buy products that have either an “expires by” date, or indicates how good the product will be after opening. When in doubt, keep creams and lotions in your fridge to extend their shelf-life.
