The holiday season is pretty much synonymous with changing up your look. So, it’s never out of the question to give your hair color a much-needed boost. Whether you decide to go darker or lighter, Clairol has a color perfect for any occasion. And what better way to try out a new look than with the help of one of our favorite NYC salons, James Corbett Studio!
How To Get Salon Hair Color At Home – Review Clairol Expert Age Defy Color + James Corbett Studio
Now, I’ve seen the fantastic celebrity colorist before try out bright blonde Clairol color in the early spring. But, this time around, it was nice to try a more natural hue. I’m not lying when I say that I’m not (dark eyebrows much?) a natural blonde. It took me about two years, infinite salon visits and many awkward shades later to get to the icy blonde shade that I’m at today. With that said, it’s been a pretty interesting battle between my dark roots and lighter ends to achieve that solid platinum hue I simply love.
Being that I have some darker outgrowth coming through, James wanted to keep the look as natural as possible. Although I used a much lighter color on my last visit, to keep that proper balance of colors, we agreed on an ashy brown shade that blended easily into my cool blonde tones. Unlike my last appointment, which focused on using an all-over blonde color, James used Nice ‘n Easy in 8A-Natural Medium Ash Brown as a touch-up on the root area, since my natural hair is obviously so dark.
Tip 1: When you dye your hair so light, brassiness is always an unwanted foe. That’s why instead of going back in with Born Blonde (my initial color from last visit), James chose a medium cool blonde shade, which gave me natural-looking coverage that blended well with my existing color.
Tip 2: Cooler tones help blondes avoid getting brassy. Too much warmth in the hair causes blondes to look a little more orange or yellow. To counteract that, you need to go for the opposite of warm and go cooler.
Tip 3: Warm shades tend to be labeled “warm” or “golden,” so you want to avoid those if you’re trying to counteract brassiness. When you think of cool blondes, you can think of icy or champagne blondes as sported by celebrities like Reese Witherspoon and Shakira.
And here is my finished look! A little darker, but confidant and edgy for the colder months ahead!
