Now that we’ve officially plunged into the dog days of summer, the only things that are on our minds are cooling down and staying dry. What that usually means is holing up in our air-conditioned homes while dousing ourselves in antiperspirant. But what’s the equivalent of deodorant for your house? Candles are out of the question — lighting a match in this heat is an abomination. Good ol’ Febreeze? Far too conventional and uninspired. Here are some cool (pun entirely intended) alternatives that will make you feel less guilty about not venturing outdoors all weekend:
D.L. & Co. Lady Rhubarb Diffuser ($110.00) — It’s time to stash away your sultry Eau de Amber votive for something lighter and more refreshing. Diffusers are an excellent option because they emit a softer scent that isn’t so heady. This fruity version is paired with citrus for a tangy aroma, and rare Japanese shiso in the base is known to energize the immune system. Best of all, its ruby art-
deco-meets-gothic-nouveau bottle makes it probably the most glamorous diffuser we’ve seen.
Creed Cocktail de Pivoines Room Spray ($150.00) – This spray instantly makes a room smell like the largest, lushest bouquet of peonies. The feminine floral scent is inviting and never overwhelming. Fun fact: this regal fragrance is actually a favorite among royal palaces worldwide, according to its website.
Diptyque Feuille de Lavande Scented Oval ($45.00) – With herbal lavender and clean green leaves, this pungent solid fragrance is as bracing as it is soothing; the scented white oval is perfect for small, stale spaces particularly. Try hanging it in a cramped bathroom to give air a sparkling, scrubbed vibe.
Archipelago Excursion Collection Fiji Large Diffuser ($45.00) – There’s perhaps nothing that evokes summer as well as an exotic tropical vacation. This blend of coconut, sugar cane, and lemon leaf smells like an island paradise. That means even when you’re cooped up inside all day, this diffuser still helps you daydream about splashing around in turquoise waters.
Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin Scent Surround Room Spray ($55.00)- This season is practically synonymous with lemonade. Is there anything more revitalizing than a tall five-cent glass on a sizzling day? (Perhaps a cold can of beer, but I digress…) Spritz this scent in the stuffy kitchen for an energizing blast of zesty citrus.
