Retinol Renewal Night Oil | $79.00
Called the next generation retinol, this product claims to improve skin’s firmness, elasticity, and texture, but with less irritation than other similar products. I used it nightly for a week and was very pleased with it – it went on smoothly and absorbed in seconds. It has a lovely, fruity fragrance too. My skin felt so soft and smooth in the morning. I have not yet seen the positive effects of the retinol but I liked that the formula is milder than most and lived up to its irritation-free promise. Yes, it’s pricey, but a little goes a long way making this product worth the splurge.
This product contains Vitamins C and E as well as plant and fruit extracts in a concentrated, hydrating formula. The product is said to “even skin tone, increase the visible appearance of elasticity and firmness, and defend against free radicals.” I used this toner for about a week in the morning, right before I put on my makeup, and in the evening, after I’d cleansed my face. I found it had a pleasant, fruit-like scent and an invigorating effect; my skin looked refreshed after application. But, I didn’t notice any visible difference in terms of elasticity and/or firmness. As for the free radicals, that’s a difficult claim to support. The bottom line is that this feels good but comes with a high price tag, especially considering its inconclusive performance.
Vitamin E Antioxidant Creme | $62.00
This creme is formulated for both day and night use. It contains brightening and firming ingredients, such as fermented shiunko oil and citrus lemon flower as well as antioxidants. I used this product morning and night for a week. I loved the fruity scent but the texture was a tad sticky when it is first applied, though it absorbs quickly. It was a fine base for makeup though since it has no SPF, so you’ll have to look for that elsewhere. Nighttime use was fine, too, though I couldn’t see any effect in terms of firming or brightening – maybe more time with the product is needed. In any case, it’s a perfectly good product though on the expensive side.
Of the three products, the Night Oil was by far the most effective and that is the one I would stick with!
