I confess that I am new to the argan oil party and so was eager to learn more. Here’s what I found out: Argan oil is an all-natural, 100% organic, chemical-free beauty product. Made from the argan tree in the semi-deserts of Morocco, argan oil has been used by Moroccan women for centuries for both its nutritional and cosmetic benefits. Commonly referred to as “liquid gold” or “The Gold of Morocco,” argan oil is a rich source of vitamin E and essential fatty acids. According to the folks at Josie Maran, it possesses “astonishing healing, conditioning and anti-aging properties to keep your skin and hair nourished and revitalized and to keep you looking beautiful from head to toe.” Argan oil is not only a “super food” for the skin and hair but for the whole body.
It is said to contain twice as much vitamin E as olive oil, along with vital antioxidants, and argan oil plays a major role in a healthy diet and is commonly used in traditional Moroccan recipes. Says Josie: “A cosmetic so good and pure you could eat it? That is the ultimate in natural beauty. After all, why would we put something on our face that we would not put into our bodies?” Well, that sounded pretty good to me! The Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil ($32.00), is a three-in-one product: cleansing, makeup remover and anti-aging moisturizing treatment. It “gently removes daily makeup and dirt, in addition to the impurities that accumulate in the skin over time.” It is also said to “restore the skin’s natural moisture and pH balance while nourishing skin cells by replenishing essential fatty acids.” In addition to argan oil, it also contains almond, safflower seed and grape seed oils, as well as antioxidants that not only cleanse the surface, but also renew every layer of the skin.
According to the directions, I was supposed to rub three or four pumps of the cleansing oil into my dry hands and apply evenly over my dry face. Then I was instructed to wet my face, massage the product into a rich milk and rinse. First, let me start with the smell — pure heaven! I guess the combination of the oils creates an aroma that is fruity, nutty and floral all at once. It is delicious, soothing and yes, good enough to taste (though I didn’t). I loved the creamy, soft paste I was able to create. The action of my hands rubbing it in warmed and massaged my skin in a very pleasant way. After I washed it off, I noticed that it rinsed squeaky clean (not like baby oil) and yet left my skin very soft, too. It was also great for taking off eye makeup, even the stubborn stuff, like liner and mascara. I absolutely love this product and will be using it for a long time to come. It makes washing your face a spa experience. Five stars!
