Recently, a porcelain-skinned friend of mine whose skincare recommendations I totally trust swore to me that I simply had to try her new favorite concealer, Hard Candy Glamoflauge.
“Hard Candy?” I had to clarify. “Isn’t that the brand that’s sold exclusively at Wal-Mart?”
I love drugstore gems as much as the next girl, but I was skeptical. I made no effort to track down this $6 gem at Wal-Mart.com. But lucky for me, friends do not let friends miss out on miraculous beauty products, and a tube of Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer arrived in my NYC mailbox courtesy of my bestie and her Amazon Prime account.

Glamoflauge is a heavy-duty, highly pigmented, blendable concealer that promises “ultimate coverage… covering birth marks, freckles, dark circles and even tattoos!” When I hear “exclusively at Wal-Mart,” I do not think super-blendable, matte finish, full coverage concealer. But I’ve changed my snobbish mind.
This product is only available in 3 shades: light, medium and dark. I personally have a lighter-than-average skintone and always skeptical that even high-end concealers won’t match my Casper complexion. The Light shade blended seamlessly, so I’m betting a wider than expected range of skintones can find a shade that works for them.
Hard Candy CC Correction Crème SPF 15 – Best CC Cream?
The pigmentation is on par with Sephora heavyweights like Make Up For Ever and Dermablend. One difference is that Glamouflauge comes out of the tube as a near liquid. The easiest way to apply is to squeeze a tiny dab on the back of your hand, then pick up product as needed with a concealer brush or fingertip before applying to blemishes. A little Glamoflauge goes a very long way. For $6, there’s no need to skimp on product, but you only need a teensy drop to cover several spots at a time.
This concealer applies as a true neutral shade, meaning you won’t find any pink or peach undertones for concealing darkness. I found it better suited to covering blemishes, acne scarring, or redness around the nose than under eye circles.
For the undereye area, I prefer a more hydrating formula, but this product is my new go-to for covering blemishes. The thin texture and full coverage are ideal for covering redness and bumps, and even do a decent job on tricky imperfections like picked at (oops!) or bruised skin. Glamoflauge is a full coverage, fully matte product. If you’re wearing this product on its own, or with a less-than-full-coverage foundation, you’ll need to touch up by the end of the day to avoid having makeup in some spots and not others. Glamoflauge lasts all day, so layer on a similarly long-wearing foundation for the most seamless finish.
And now, the final test: tattoo coverage! As you can see, my tiny tat has full color ink and classic (dark) tattoo blue outlines.
Step 1: Outline your ink with the included mini concealer pencil.
Step 2: Apply a dab of concealer directly to the tattoo, and blend out with a fingertip. Don’t worry about blending the edges at this point. Let dry.
Step 3: Apply a second dab of concealer to the tattoo and blend out with a fingertip. With this layer, I worked to blend the concealer beyond the ink and feather it out to match my wrist. Let dry.
Step 4: Repeat Step 3 as necessary until your ink is covered. I stopped after 2 layers for this tutorial, but would use 3 for a photo shoot or job interview.
Step 5: Set with a matte translucent powder or powder foundation.
You can see a shadow, but anyone not searching for a tattoo wouldn’t notice. Keep in mind that if your tat is in an area that tans or inked in lighter colors, you’ll have even better results. I have tried high-end concealers on my tattoo, and prefer the Glamouflage for its blendability. Highly recommend!
