Inspired by the colors of the sky as it warms into spring, Chanel’s latest collection features quite the large array of radiant, sunlit hues. From dusty roses to vivid corals, soft peaches to rich garnets, this new line from Chanel is sure to leave you tickled pink.
The entire collection, which officially launched in January and should now be widely available, includes blushes, eyeshadows, and a full bouquet of lip offerings — among other goodies. I snagged a few standout products to keep your eye on for the upcoming season:
Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadow in Éclosion
A compact of complimentary colors that include shades in satiny peach, sparkly golden champagne, lustrous beige, and shimmery plum. They all have an impressive formula that feels like velvet and offers excellent color payoff—especially the plum hue. Since each shadow features some form of shimmer, this palette is best reserved for evenings when worn all together. Otherwise, the colors are certainly daytime friendly when used on their own.
Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Tigerlily
A light orange shade with golden sparkles. It’s an unusual color for Chanel — usually sticking with classic color staples —
but it’s a true standout in the collection and a rarity in the cosmetic market overall. This shadow has medium, buildable coverage and a micro-glittery finish that translates flawlessly onto skin. It’ll look divine on warm complexions especially.
Rouge Coco Hydrating Crème Lip Colours in Superstition and Charme
Both have creamy textures that glide on lips without feeling slick, which means they last for hours! Superstition is
a beige shade with gold shimmer and pink undertones that looks great on light to medium skin. It may come off too frosty for some, but this effect is easily toned down with a quick swipe of gloss; Charme is a shimmery petal pink shade that’s a step above your natural-looking lips and perks up dull skin. The lustrous finish elevates the look with a pretty and feminine touch.
Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshines in Candeur and Flirt
These feel like tinted lip balms rather than lipsticks. They have slick textures and glossy finishes that seem to melt onto lips, making them feel thoroughly moisturized. Just be sure to keep this formula stashed in your bag for frequent hourly touch-ups, since it does tend to fade quickly. Candeur is a sparkly baby pink shade that may look pasty in the tube, but the sheer pigmentation keeps it universally wearable. Flirt is a vibrant sparkly coral color that pinches lips with just a tint of warmth and depth. The sparkles do feel slightly grainy when lips are pursed together—not enough to be irritating, but they are present.
Lèvres Scintillantes Glossimers in Pètillant and Bagatelle
Leave lips with a glassy shine that look dripping wet. They’re each perfect compliments to the Candeur and Flirt Lipshines, respectively. The gloss is packaged with a doe-foot applicator and has a thicker but comfortable formula that allows you to garner about two to four hours of wear. Pètillant is a shell pink shade with white and pink sparkles. It looks clear on lips with a smattering of shimmer that reflects in the sun, making it quite alluring, although not the most unique color. Bagatelle is a coral-pink hue that’s chock-full of fine gold glitter. It has medium color payoff and does feel a bit grainy on lips. This shade looks best on skin with warm undertones.
Rouge Double Intensité Ultra Wear Lip Colour in Rose Topaz
A mauve-y rose, long-lasting lip color. The double-ended tube comes with a base coat color that includes a doe-foot applicator and a clear gloss with a brush-tip applicator. The lip base feels creamy when applied and becomes tacky as it sets. Once dry, after about a minute, it leaves a matte finish on lips that feels comfortable, with a flexibility that keeps it from becoming flaky. The glossy top coat keeps lips moist with a patent-like shine. This lip color trucked on for an impressive six hours on me, and even when it rubbed off it left a discernible stain on lips. The medium rose hue is a demure shade that will truly look outstanding and elegant on anyone.
Overall, Chanel’s Spring 2012 collection is youthful, femme, and radiant. Lovers of all-things-sparkly will find plenty to choose from here, and the presence of so many warm tones will be particularly flattering on those with yellow undertone complexions. Still, the plethora of pink shades is inherently complimentary to cool skin. My favorites that aren’t to be missed include the Les 4 Ombres in Éclosion, the Ombre Essentielle in Tigerlily, and the Rouge Double Intensité in Rose Topaz.
