Sweet, creamy, velvety. These are adjectives that could apply to the Red Velvet cake you’ve been silently craving. But Yves St. Laurent’s new Rouge Volupte lipstick (which hit Henri Bendel today) may also fit the bill.
The face of this new lippie is Kate Moss. The tube is absolutely gorgeous: a built-in mirror, a slanted lipstick “bullet” and a hip gilded belt of color that showcases the lipstick’s real tones.
Gold dominates the packaging, of course, and the lipstick is very smooth. Like buttah. Of course, I run the risk of sounding like a trite ad from the pages of Cosmo magazine, but it’s the truth. I could have scooped the lipstick with a spoon.
It glided nicely on the lip but the intense color was a bit of a shock. Be prepared to look like a nice little mannequin on Madison Avenue if you choose the wrong shade.
And there are 18 shades (Nude Beige; Sensual Silk; Ultimate Beige; Sweet Honey; Divine Mahogany; Legendary Mocha; Lingerie Pink; Fetish Pink; Pink Caress; Provocative Pink; Rose Culte; Forbidden Burgundy; Peach Passion; Orange Shiver; Extreme Coral;Red Temptation; Red Muse; Red Taboo)
It contains SPF 15 and contains hyaluronic acid to plump up lips. It retails for $35.
