Review, Best Hair Removers 2013: Remington Smooth & Silky Epilator, Bikini Trimmer, Roll-On Hot Wax: Difference Between Waxing: Epilating Uni K Wax For Sensitive Skin

With summer comes new makeup collections and plenty of skin-baring shorts, skirts and dresses, which means time to remove some unwanted body hair!

Whether you’re a fan of shaving, epilating or waxing, BeautyStat got in touch with hair removal expert Noemi Grupenmager (founder and CEO of Uni K Wax Centers) to weigh in on how each hair removal process works, which methods are best for your skin type and ways to relieve any redness and/or irritation from razor burn, ingrown hairs.

We’ve also reviewed three Remington hair-removing devices including the Women’s Body & Bikini Trimmer Kit, Women’s Smooth And Silky Epilator and Smooth & Silky Electric Roll-On Wax Kit. From peach-fuzz to long, dark or coarse hair, one of these devices is sure to be perfect for you!

Remington Smooth & Silky Electric Roll-On Wax Kit ($19.99)

“Prior to waxing, the skin’s pores are tight, keeping the hair follicle embedded in the skin. Many waxing techniques use honey or hard wax, which are very hot and must be applied and removed quickly, otherwise it becomes brittle if left on the skin,” explains Noemi.

This Electric Roll-On Wax Kit is very portable and heats in under 20-minutes. It includes quick, even heating with the promise of being hair-free for up to 6 weeks! It comes with one special wax cartridge that you put into the Electric Wax Warmer (which you plug into an outlet).

The cartridge will last for up to eight waxing sessions with easy clean-up. It is important to always hold the skin taut when waxing. I find that waxing works really well on my calves, since the skin is much tauter and easier to handle. Once I work my way up to my thighs, that’s when I prefer shaving or epilating. The wax itself isn’t too hot, but you do have to go over some areas to make sure you removed all of the hair.

Wax Ingredients: sucrose, aqua, maltodextrin, glycerin, citric acid, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate.

Women’s Smooth & Silky Epilator ($69.99)

“Epilating means the removal of the entire hair from the roots (hair follicle). To further reduce irritation, moisturizing the skin in-between will reduce redness and discomfort with a better hair removal result.”

I am such a fan of epilating! Shaving can cause irritation, especially on my upper and inner thighs where the hair is coarser but the skin is more delicate. I’ve reviewed two epilating devices so far with great results, but, this one by Remington is soon to be my new favorite based on one feature alone: a pivoting head!

It works like a shaver but the 40 tweezers that pull each hair from the root ensures for an optimal tweezing angle. There is also a detailed light to make sure you pick up even the smallest hairs (LOVE THAT!). The 2-speed setting allows for a quick hair-removal; the Masagging Cap with aloe vera soothes skin, while the Precision Cap can be used on the face or detailed areas on the body.

You can use it wet or dry, and I found that this particular epilator worked quicker… or maybe I’m just getting better at it. My skin does look a little red afterwards, but I make sure to moisturize right after and by morning my skin is back to normal.

Remington Women’s Body & Bikini Trimmer Kit ($19.99)

The Remington battery-operated Bikini Trimmer is a great grooming tool with three attachable heads including a Foil Shaver with hypoallergenic foils, New! Exfoliator Head to prevent ingrown hairs and a Length Guide that attaches to the Trimmer.

This device allows for quick, close and comfortable grooming wherever, whenever! I really loved the Exfoliator Head, which is meant to be used prior to shaving/epilating in order to prevent razor burn or ingrown hairs. It is lightweight and comes in a very fashionable, hot pink beauty bag for easy travel! You can use it in the shower, so you won’t have to worry about damaging the Trimmer.

Noemi Grupenmager Uni K Wax

Uni K Wax is different,” says Noemi. “We focus on a nonabrasive and no-pain waxing method, resulting in better and quicker hair removal. Uni K Wax’s natural elastic wax formula is applied to the skin at body temperature; many customers love the sensation as it feels like a warm mud pack.

Even if left on the skin for a long duration of time, the wax will remain elastic, nourishing the skin with its all-natural ingredients. By leaving the elastic wax at body temperature on the skin, the pores have time to gradually open, allowing the hair from the follicle to be easily removed with no hair breakage at skin level… resulting in a non-aggressive sensation on the skin.

Uni Ks wax is made for sensitive skin and contains essential oils and is gluten-free. It’s also applied at a warm temperature, so it won’t cause irritation to the skin. People with fair skin may experience slight redness that lasts for a few minutes due to the fact that their pores are opened after being waxed, but this should disappear in no time!”
