This summer, don’t forget to pamper yourself while on-the-go! We might remember to pack all of our skincare essentials, but who really wants to bring extra spa-related stuff? That’s why LUSH makes a summer weekend getaway into a truly unique and effective spa-like experience with their travel-friendly products.
We were lucky to have LUSH Product Trainer Jeff Brown share some tips with us on how to get a spa-like experience anywhere with some of their new and fan-favorite products.
As always, LUSH products contain fresh ingredients that are handmade, which is consistent with their ongoing charity campaigns, such as their fight against animal testing. From the Avobath Bath Bomb to Buffy (the Vampire Slayer? You mean dead skin slayer!), the exfoliating Body Butter, you’ll be spa-ready wherever you venture this summer!
Seanik Solid Shampoo ($11.95)
This solid shampoo is packed with the best ingredients from the sea: softening Irish moss seaweed and Japanese nori seaweed make your hair soft as silk from root to tips, while sea salt gives body and volume — and smells absolutely AMAZING!
Take this to go with the durable Shampoo Bar Tin ($3.95) that is ideal for making your Solid Shampoo last longer! Just make sure to let it dry completely in-between washes!
Jeff Says: Rub the bar directly on wet hair about three times around the scalp and work into a creamy lather. Rinse thoroughly and follow with a LUSH conditioner for soft tresses.
This is a very condensed version of traditional shampoo, a Shampoo Bar can last you as long as about 3 standard bottles of shampoo, significantly reducing packaging waste.
No Drought Dry Shampoo ($13.95)
You’re on vacation! So give regular washes a rest with this fresh-smelling dry shampoo containing the citrusy aroma of lemon, grapefruit and lime oils.
I really liked how it blended into my dark hair, even though the powder is stark white! It smelled great and really allowed my hair to become voluminous while soaking up all the oils.
Jeff Says: Just massage it sparingly into your scalp and through your hair, then shake it out (if you’ve got long hair, you might need a quick brush to make sure you’re covered).
Buffy Body Butter ($11.95)
Jeff Brown explains that this exfoliating Body Butter was invented by LUSH Founder Rowana when on a trip to Brazil. She noticed that the women there would rub sand and sun oil into their legs and bums, to improve circulation and banish cellulite.
In awe of their beautiful, smooth, bump-free bodies, she concocted her own version — now called Buffy — with shea and cocoa butter that contains a scent reminiscent of her journey to Brazil. No need to apply moisturizer afterwards!
Jeff Says: Can be used under water in the bath or shower. Rub the bar in a circular motion along all those rough, dry body parts. Massage in the rich butters, rinse gently and pat dry. Body Butters are designed to melt at body temperature — keep them out of direct sunlight and store somewhere cool. For best results, keep it in a LUSH Body Butter Tin.
Avobath Bath Bomb ($6.35)
Have an early morning bath with this invigorating and refreshing Avobath Bath Bomb. It contains lemongrass, fresh avocado and olive oil to soften skin that will look more supple and hydrated.
It smells incredibly refreshing (almost like Fruity Pebbles!) and turns your bath water a shimmery green! You’ll feel just like a mermaid chilling out in the exotic waters of the Caribbean — even if you’re just taking a bath in your aunt’s tub in Coney Island!
Jeff Says: Fill tub with warm water, drop in the Bath Bomb and enjoy its lovely color and fragrance. To make your experience even more memorable, combine a Bath Bomb with a Bath Melt.
French Kiss Bubble Bar ($8.95)
If you like your bath with bubbles, then this one is for you! The French Kiss Bubble Bar is infused with fresh herbal fragrances of lavender, rosemary and thyme with essential oils from the hills of sun-soaked Provence.
Lay back and relax as your Bubble Bar turns your bath purple with a sprig of lavender calming floating on by. It’s almost too pretty to use, but it will definitely make your body feel instantly relaxed and soothed.
Jeff Says: Crumble under running warm water as you fill the tub. The amount you need to use will vary, but this bar usually yields one or two baths. The stronger your water pressure, the more bubbles you will make; we encourage experimentation for best results. To get the most out of your Bubble Bars, keep them in a cool, dry place.
Each Peach Massage Bar ($10.95)
After you’ve emerged from your bath, give yourself a rub down (or have someone else do it for you!) with the Each Peach Massage Bar. These Massage Bars, like the Body Butters, melt into your skin based on your unique body temperature. It also has its own Massage Bar Tin ($3.95) to help preserve your bar and keep it from melting in the summer heat.
This zesty blend of sweet orange oil, lime oil, mandarin and grapefruit put you in a good mood! It also nourishes skin with the power of avocado and mango butters to keep skin hydrated and glowing.
Jeff Says: Organic fair trade cocoa and shea butter house beautiful essential oils that are much better for the skin than ordinary massage oils. Rub one of these bars directly onto your partner’s skin as it will melt with their body heat and create a soft, soothing butter on the skin that you use to massage with. They are less messy than bottled oils, and can be used as a solid (preservative-free) body moisturizer if you so choose!
H’Suan Wen Hua Hair Treatment ($20.95)
While you’re soaking, don’t forget to put on a hair mask! The H’Suan Wen Hua Hair Treatment is intensely, moisturizing for your out-of-condition hair.
LUSH calls this “hair food” and rightly so: avocados are nutritious and softening, balsamic vinegar gives amazing shine; watercress infusion is exceptionally high in vitamins and increases the tensile strength of the hair. It is meant to be used on dry hair before washing, smells incredibly fresh and resembles the look of banana pudding.
Jeff Says: This is said to be the Chinese god of hair. If you want good hair, it helps to have gods on your side. To Use: Saturate dry hair with as much or as little of the mask as your hair requires, wait (at least) 20-minutes and shampoo and condition as normal.
