As many of you may or may not know, I’m getting married! I am so happy to be tying the knot, but have dreaded the actual fact that I have to plan a wedding.
And with their big day looming, many brides worry how they will look as they walk down the aisle. While some schedule liposuction and facelifts months in advance, others rely on the idyllic wedding dress to perfect their appearance. (All photos courtesy of Turnquist Photography)
The prospect of planning made me less nervous after I attended the New York Magazine’s Weddings Event & the Wedding Salon Event, both held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in March and April.
The events were very similarly structured with over 100 vendors that included caterers, photographers, makeup and hair experts, planners, venues, etc. In other words: It was everything that you would need to actually plan and have the wedding event of your dreams!
I actually preferred The Wedding Salon Event. Although some of the vendors were at the same events, I thought their event was more organized, more intimate and had an all-together better vibe. After all, they are the experts, so if you are looking for one event to go to, this one would be your best bet! Also, they have several events throughout the year in NY, and also in Chicago, Miami and Washington. For more information check out www.WeddingSalon.com.
There were so many cool things I saw at these events, and I probably could write from now until next year about them. There are a lot of new things trending when planning a wedding: I have listed some of the ones that I thought were most interesting/original.
Please feel free to comment or ask any questions you might have — I will be happy to answer!
Skincare brand Dermalogica was showing at both events. Their campaign was, ‘Say I do with amazing skin.’ They offer a skin treatment series to make skin flawless for your big day.
I had no idea or even thought to make my skin look better. I intend to investigate further and find a plan that will fit my needs. More information on this can be found at dermalogica.com.
A designer cake is apparently in-fashion. Ron Ben-Israel from Sweet Genius was at the NY Mag event and Carlo’s Bakery (The Cake Boss) was showing some cakes and luscious desserts. Everything looked delicious!
Mexico, Aruba, Hawaii, Honduras, among many other destinations across the country, all had booths at the events. Apparently, having a destination wedding is definitely the “it” thing to do. If you choose a destination wedding, all the planning is basically done by the destination you choose. This is something I am leaning towards, since a lot of the places were so beautiful and exotic looking.
The two things I picked as the most original and creative wedding sites were Postable and TapSnap. Postable.com is a website that helps you get all your guest mailing addresses organized. It is a simple and easy-to-use site that makes mailing out your invitations a painless process. Also, there was a cool spin on a photo booth called TapSnap.
TapSnap is like a digital wedding guestbook that allows your guests to take interactive fun pictures/videos and post them to any social media site. Find out more info at www.tapsnap.net.
There were a million more things to share from these events, but if you are getting married, I strongly suggest you register and go to the next Wedding Salon Event. You will definitely get great ideas and find all the best vendors to plan a beautiful, memorable wedding.
Upon leaving the Wedding Salon Event, they gave out you a big goodie bag filled with wedding magazines, samples, coupons, etc. — the perfect end to a great event!
