The clock is ticking and the New Year’s Eve party invites are rolling in. You’re so excited to ring in 2011 with friends and family, but you’re also stressed out because you have no clue what to do with your hair.
Something glamorous and different? Certainly. But the holidays have taken a toll on your wallet and you don’t necessarily have the money (or the desire) to waste tons of cash on the perfect New Year’s hair accessory.
Trust me, we’ve all been there. But we’re here to tell you that you don’t have to spend a lot of (or even any) money to spruce up your hair this New Year’s! BeautyStat consulted Award-winning Master Colorist Vasken Demirjian to bring you the best and most inexpensive DIY hair accessories for your New Year’s parties.
Vasken has the perfect three suggestions to work with what you already have lying around the house and make an impact when you make your grand entrance this season.
“During the holiday season, nothing is more fun than amping up your everyday look with fabulous hair accessories! An elegant addition to your hairstyle is a great way to make a tremendous entrance at all of those holiday parties and to create a truly memorable outfit,” Vasken says. “The first thing people see is your hair, so make a statement with the combination of gorgeous hair and a dramatic hair accessory!”
Try one of the following ideas and you’ll be the life of the party for sure!
Glittery flowers + decor
If you thought flowers were just festive centerpieces or aromatic decorations, you’ve been missing out on one of the hottest accessory options out there!
To dress up your New Year’s hair in a cheap, yet glam way, Vasken recommends trying a shimmery or glittery flower like a red poinsettia. Pin the flower at the base of a chic chignon or use it to pin up loose, flowing locks on one side. And voilà, a glamorous, sophisticated look!
Transforming a signature necklace
You know your favorite statement necklace? That one that sparkles in all the right places and has impeccably intricate detail? Spice it up a little and use it as an accessory for your hair.
For an unexpected but breathtaking look, Vasken recommends parting hair on the side then pinning the necklace with bobby pins. Feeling extra daring? Let the pendants of the necklace drape over your ear, Gatsby-style.
Using feathers
This fall’s feather trend extends beyond your clothes, ladies! Spice up flowing Hollywood waves with a cluster of feathers behind one ear. Vasken suggests having fun with your color choice, and opting for a vibrant red or blue feather.
Pin your feathers of choice right in your strands or glue them onto your favorite glittery barrette for an exotic yet glamorous look.
