We’re just getting started modeling our summer hairstyles, but it’s never too early to start planning your Fall/Winter 2013/14 hair looks!
Redken Creative Consultant Guido tells us how to achieve some of the upcoming fall season’s most captivating, dark and cinematic-inspired looks seen on the runways of Dior to Marc Jacobs.
Hair is slicked back with ultra-shine products including Redken’s NEW Diamond Oil line. Curls are luxe and cool with oversized volume, while ballerina buns take a back seat (in a good way!) and a gleaming touch was added to the classic French twist.
Rock a low-slung ponytail meant for grown-ups or try a sophisticated blow-out with a tomboyish edge. Read on to see how you can recreate these hair looks at home using some new Redken hair products!
“This season was about a more womanly kind of beauty… very cinematic, with references to film noir. Designers wanted to capture moments in beauty, so I created hairstyles that looked caught in the moment, as if a woman were caught in the rain or at a certain point in time.
We referenced film sirens like Elizabeth Taylor and Kim Novack, classic beauties who were very strong and powerful. Shine was very prevalent, and products like Redken’s New Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine and Shine Flash 02 helped me achieve that glistening finish.”— Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Prada FW13
The sun was out as models walked at Marc Jacobs, but the hair took a darker turn with boyish, high-gloss cuts in inky blacks and browns. Same goes for Dior Haute Couture this spring, where gleaming punk pixies stole the show.
Marc Jacobs FW13
“It was grungy, raw and real,” Guido said. Most of the models sported precision-cut wigs (“Just try asking 55 models to chop off their hair,” Guido said with a laugh), but the same tips apply to authentic pixie cuts:
— Add texture and volume with Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam, then create a wet-look finish with Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist.
When is a caught-in-the-rain look not only completely acceptable, but also completely glamorous? At Prada, of course, where Guido created an undone style with wet-look shine:
— Start by applying a generous amount of Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam to wet hair, then create a messy side part and comb through.
— Now apply NEW Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine (hair should still be wet) and air-dry.
— Pin back one side and mist on control addict Control Addict 28 High-Control Hairspray.

Bottega FW13
At Bottega Veneta, Guido’s inspiration was a young Jodie Foster in the 1976 film Taxi Driver. Key to these billowy curls? “The amount of product you use – if I used less, it would have meant less volume,” he said.
— Prep hair with Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam and rough-dry, then mist on Iron Shape 11 Finishing Thermal Spray before curling and setting hair in pin curls. (Leave the top 2-3” of hair uncurled.)
— Once hair has cooled, unpin each curl, brush through to add airy volume, then sweep hair to one side and pin above the ear.
Loewe FW13
Ready for a grown-up version of a ponytail? The elegant style seen at Loewe fits the bill perfectly.
— Blow-dry with Full Frame 07 Protective Volumizing Mousse, lifting hair at the roots for maximum volume, then shake Powder Grip 03 mattifying hair powder on the crown section by section.

— Now backcomb hair with a boar-bristle brush, reapply Powder Grip 03 and gather hair into a low ponytail.

Alberta Ferretti FW13
At Alberta Ferretti, Guido reinvented the French twist with a sculpted shape and a gleaming finish. “I used a lot of product to make sure it wasn’t too soft or too pretty,” he noted. “It’s a little tougher and cooler.”
Dior FW13
— Start by working Rewind 06 Pliable Styling Paste through damp hair, then rake hair into a twist, leaving out two side sections.
— Pin your twist in place, then pin the two side sections back (leave the center part visible).
— Mist on a generous amount of Control Addict 28 High-Control Hairspray and let the style dry.
Nina Ricci FW13
The look at Nina Ricci? An oversized ballet bun. Guido relied on Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam to create this exaggerated updo, blow-drying with a boar-bristle brush for lift at the roots.
– After smoothing hair into a high ponytail, he swirled the tail into an oversized bun and pinned in place, then finished the look with Fashion Work 12 Versatile Working Spray.

Jil Sander FW13
At Jil Sander, Guido created a minimalist ponytail with mirror-like shine.

– To give your ponytail the sleekest possible finish, spray Iron Shape 11 Finishing Thermal Spray on the tail and flat-iron, then apply Shine Flash 02 Glistening Mist.

Versace FW13
Look closely at the Versace hair and you’ll discover the subtle rock’n’roll detailing. “I combed up the front to make it a little more boyish, a little tougher,” Guido said.
– Blow-dry with Satinwear 02 Prepping Blow-Dry Lotion, then create a clean side part and use Hardwear 16 Super Strong Gel to comb the front up and into shape.
– Finish with Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.
