BeautyStat wants to know: “What’s the buzz with the, well, buzzed hair look?” It seems like more and more celebrities and artists are buzzing off their precious locks! A look that is most reminiscent of the early 80’s female rockers, such as Cyndi Lauper, or, more recently, Britney Spears when she went a little crazy and shaved her entire head. Either way, this look seems to be making an impact on today’s hair trend scene.

Does hair history repeat itself? Most definitely. But the main difference with the new buzzed hair look has to be how versatile the look can be. Whether it is buzzed off a little from the side of the head, completely buzzed on either side, or adorned with a design, the buzzed look has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.

We wanted to know what hairstylists Michael Angelo, of the Wonderland Beauty Parlor, Heather Packer and Rodney Cutler thought of the trend and asked them how we can get the look at home. Read on to find out more about the trend; how to get it and check out some before/after photos of some of your favorite celebs.

The buzzed hair look is extremely tough-looking and personal! No buzzed cut is alike. More and more celebs are chopping off their hair, just like Miley Cyrus who recently went platinum blonde and went for an entirely different look with a choppy, buzzed cut! Could this be an act of rebellion? We asked Rodney Cutler what he thought of the trend, “Cutting your hair off is one of the biggest changes you can do in the shortest period of time, says Cutler. “ perfect statement to reinvent transform your style.”

But not all buzzed looks are as dramatic as some celebs like Keyshia Cole and her heart-shaped design or Melanie Brown’s almost mohawk. The look can add just enough edge while still remaining classic. Take actress Meagan Good, who still manages to look refined with her flipped, 50’s-inspired do — a light buzz on the side adds just enough personal eccentricity. Selma Blair also keeps it edgy with long layers in the front, short in the back and buzzed on the side — a real departure from her usual short hair.

Regardless of what type of look you are going for, the buzzed look is actually a lot easier to achieve than you might think. Michael Angelo and Heather Packer gave us some inside tips on how to create and maintain this buzzed cut at home: “You can be bold and cut it all off into a cute pixie, or my recommendation would be to allow the longer hair to fall over the top hiding the in-between uncomfortable process,” explains Packer. “As the hair increases in length, remove weight to decrease the bulkiness. The longer hair should be able to hold it down.”

Michael Angelo explains how to grow out our buzzed cuts to keeping them looking their best, “To grow something like this out you need to cut the long part pack while you grow the short bits out,” explains Angelo. “I personally love the way it looks and feels to shave your head. I think Miley Cyrus finally looks cool. I love it.”

What do you guys think of the buzzed look? Would any of you lovely ladies try it?
