Elizabeth Taylor was many things to the world—actress, style icon, timeless beauty, and overall legend—but one thing she definitely wasn’t was boring. This icon could easily have found what beauty looks worked for her and stuck with it, but Taylor loved to keep the world watching while she switched up her looks. And switch them up she did.
With her recent passing, we’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting on the beauty that Taylor was, and the amazing beauty looks she donned throughout her renowned career. Here are their favorite looks, and some simple tips for recreating them at home. Let the legend of Liz live on!
The Cleopatra Bob
Roy Teeluck on Elizabeth Taylor: “It is very rare to come across a beauty such as Elizabeth Taylor, she was a true icon whose style was ageless and will continue to be a fashion reference. Taylor was not afraid to exploit her amazing mane – long or short – it all worked, and she knew how to carry any look with effortless confidence.”

- Once in rollers, continue to dry the hair on a low speed for 5 minutes, and then allow it time to cool for another 5 minutes.

- Proceed to randomly pin the waves in the back of head with bobby pins creating rough look while leaving pieces loose around the hairline. Curl remaining hairline pieces with a large iron and spray.

Richard Marin on Elizabeth Taylor: “Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most important style icons ever. My work is always a reference to her when I create any old Hollywood glam look. Always has, always will!”
Debra Messing: Elizabeth Taylor-inspired Updo
“The VIPs”-inspired Up-Do
“I created this look for Debra Messing with ONLY La Liz as the influence! This is the era when Liz did the 1963 movie “The VIPs,” Marin says. To create the look,
- Pull your dry, straight hair into a very high ponytail.
- Use hot rollers (try the small size from Remington’s Style Ionic Hot Rollers)– you want to have at least 4 to 6 of them set on your pony.
- After the curls have cooled down, brush out and backcomb the ponytail into a minimum of 6 separate sections.
- Create basket curls and use bobby pins to hold in place–the shape should be as if rollers are still in the hair.
- Add hairspray to finish!
The Cleopatra Bob
- The Cleopatra bob is legendary and the easiest style to maintain. It’s all about your haircut, so keep your stylist’s number handy! It just needs monthly trims.
- For upkeep, wash and air dry, and then straighten bangs and stubborn wavy areas with a mini flat iron (like Remington’s T-Studio Pearl Ceramic Straightener)
- Apply a little argon oil for intense shine.
