It’s that time of year again! With the holidays brings a number of social soirées and events that keep us on our toes for executing the best party looks. Need to find a new hairstyle to rock this holiday party season? BeautyStat asked Dove and celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend to share some holiday hair tips to keep your hair looking fresh and festive. Read on to find out some tips, tricks and new hairstyle ideas!
“During the holiday season, women have to go from work to parties with little time in between, so I tell my clients to put a can of Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo in their bag,” explained Townsend. “Itʼs the perfect pick-me-up to refresh your hairstyle.”
“Braids are a huge trend that work so well with holiday hairstyles,” said Townsend.” Put a small amount of Dove Style+Care Frizz-Free Shine Cream-Serum in your hands and rub your hands together to warm up the product, and then rake your hands through your hair, braiding it before pinning your hair into a bun (as seen on Heidi Klum above).
Or, gather the hair in the back of the head and separate the hair into 3 sections and braid the hair and gather about an inch from the bottom. Secure with elastic. Wrap the braid into a bun and secure with bobby pins. I always spray Dove Refresh+Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo on my bobby pins for extra hold and I finish by spraying Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray all over to keep every hair in place all night.”

“The right hair for the holiday season is healthy, shiny hair,” said Townsend. “Holiday hair is a little more refined and less beachy. To get perfect holiday waves, run a few drops of Dove Nourishing Oil Care Anti-Frizz Serum through damp hair and comb through. The natural almond and coconut oils penetrate inside the hair to moisturize and nourish the inside of the hair and the light argan oil seals the hair shaft instantly, so you can immediately add a large dollop of Dove Style+Care Nourishing Amplifier Mousse and blow-dry with a large, round brush.
When all the hair is dry, take 3-inch sections of your hair and wrap it around a 1 1/2 inch curling iron. When all the hair has been curled, spray Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray on a flat brush and brush through. This spray doesn’t get sticky or tacky so you can keep a bottle in your bag for touch-ups throughout the night.”
“Going from day to evening quickly during the holiday season can be easy as dressing up a simple ponytail or bun,” said Townsend. “It’s all about making the style look clean and chic. Spray the Dove Style+Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray on a disposable mascara wand and brush the hairs around the hairline and nape of neck into the style for a polished look.”

Need more holiday hair-spiration? Try the half-up/half-down style. “The modern version is softer and more romantic with the sides softly pulled back (as seen on Kourtney Kardashian and Jenna Ushlowitz), or just pulling the hair from the temples back and leaving the hair above the ears down,” explained Townsend. “Where you gather hair in the back is the perfect place to add an accessory; you can use a pin, a brooch or even an earring to dress up this style.”

“I love when women become a little more daring during the holiday season and try new hairstyles for a night, or use a hair accessory they normally wouldn’t,” admitted Townsend. “There are so many events women go to like school functions, work parties and family dinner — women don’t always want their style to look the same, so this is the perfect time to try something new!”
