I’ve always said “My hair is my best accessory: it completes any outfit!” Well, I was proud to hear that same quote uttered by Maggie Mulhern, of ModernSalon.com last Saturday, at the first ever Texture on the Runway hair show, at City Winery in SoHo.
With all the ‘haute’ hair in the room, I fit in perfectly – I was in hair heaven! Sponsor tables displayed all the products a curly-haired girl (or boy!) could possibly need to tame her mane. Forget shoes and outfits, it was ALL ABOUT THE HAIR!
Featured hairstylists, haircare brands like Matrix, Curls Unleashed, ARROJO, Hair Rules and Minardi Luxury Color Care displayed textured hair at its best. Over four-hundred VIP/media outlets were in the house: Curls Unleashed’s very own Zac Britt and Willie Malone, Ouidad, Essence Magazine, The New York Times, Kim Coles and Afrobella to name a few. Curls Unleashed gave VIPs/media a sneak peak at hair products not-yet-released, as well as explaining the hairstyles created on the models prior to them taking the runway. Cocktails and hair product samples filled the room, while VIPs, stylists and bloggers mingled and excitedly awaited for the show to start.
The event was hosted by TextureMedia president and co-founder Michelle Breyer and Taren Guy (Taren916 of YouTube) who kicked off the 1st Annual Texture on The Runway Event, explaining the beauty that is textured hair. Hair Rules simply ruled; huge hair in coils, curls, twists, HUGE hair in waves! Stylist Nick Arrojo from ARROJO introduced the ‘American Wave’: big hair in big, loose, bouncy waves. Matrix displayed fabulous Neo-Victorian inspired styles, poofed hair, crimped, braided and teased to create massive volume.
Hair Rules showcased big beautiful curls, ’70s foxy era. Curls Unleashed showed natural gals that “Nature got it right the FIRST time”, liberating oneself from perms, irons, blow dryers – and just going with what god gave you, and rocking it! Minardi Luxury Color Care showed off color itself, textured hair — bringing it to another level. An interesting feature of the night were the two huge television screens, which displayed live Twitter feeds during the event. Of course, no fashion show would be complete without a “goodie bag” – heavy & jam-packed with enough full-sized hair products to last me 6 months. I can’t wait to start testing. Enjoy some pictures from this amazing night:
