When it comes to Fall 2013 nail trends, one thing is for certain: a matte finish will get you noticed!
Blushing Plum, Feeling Flushed & Grey Haze
Fashion designers and nail artists alike know that a shiny lacquered finish is becoming a trend of the past. If you feel like you can’t depart from your shiny top coat, then try the matte effect on one nail!
Nordstrom Beauty has come out with some fall-inspired shades, ranging from light, milky grays to peachy nudes and inky blacks. Nordstrom Beauty Nail Color ($8.50; 2 for $15.00) is long-wearing and reinforces and protects nails.
Insomnia & Insomnia w/ Make It Matter
I was impressed by how fast-drying the formula is — one coat gives you a pretty opaque effect. Free of toluene, formaldehyde, DBP and camphor, I swatched the following shades: Blushing Plum (a dark plum/gray), Feeling Flushed (peachy nude), Grey Haze (heather gray), Insomnia (pure black) and Make It Matter as a top coat.
The matte top coats for this season aren’t too matte. They provide a subtle sheen, while giving your nails a unique texture.
Jin Soon Choi has also added a matte top coat to her Fall 2013 collection, collaborating with women’s wear designer Amy Smilovic of Tibi. The sooty, mineral-like shades create a utilitarian look for nails. Shimmering colors and a matte topcoat were inspired by the layering and urban edginess Smilovic adds to this season’s collection.
Giving the collection a sophisticated edge, Tibi said:
“When layered over the polish, the matte top coat creates an urban edge.”
Named after their mineral-like appearance, mica is used to achieve the look of glitter. A double patented formula delivers a long-lasting manicure with rich color payoff.
Epidote & Jasper
The formula of these nail polishes is 5-Free and created without toxic chemicals like formeldahyde DPB, formeldahyde resin and camphor. High tech polymers and resins ensure for longer wear and extended shelf life, with UV filters to protect polish from fading and yellowing nails.
Mica & Azurite
The shades include: Jasper (shimmering burgandy), Mica – (irredesent silver gray), Obsidian (galaxy black with mica flecks), Azurite (sparking midnight blue) and Epidote (holographic olive green).
Mica & Mica w/ Matte Maker top coat
The Matte Maker has a short drying time with a lasting finish that doesn’t alter the nail polish color.
I loved Azurite, which gave off a unique cobalt blue color with interesting yet fine glittering flecks, almost like the small, irredesent pieces of mica found in a rock. And Epidote catches different colors of yellow, green and pink when reflected in the light.
