Intense. Rich. Bold. Deep red and berry shades are my go-to for fall each year, especially for the lips. Gorgeous show-stopping colors like these remind me of leaves falling in various shades as we prep for the winter months.

And, since I don’t have the opportunity to experience true autumn weather while living in Hawaii, I love to play up my makeup to incorporate those warm and deep hues.
Recently I had the opportunity to try out two lipsticks from a brand that I have been wanting to
experience for some time now. Lipstick Queen by Poppy King features a wide variety of shades for all lipstick lovers, and they recently released the beautiful and gorgeous Velvet Rope Collection.

Inspired by the golden years of Hollywood (my favorite years), this collection includes gorgeous
luxury for your lips that immediately take you to a time when deep, rich lip shades and subtle eye looks were glamorous and looked absolutely effortless.
“I was inspired by the golden years of Hollywood when stars were stars and glamour was in every detail. I wanted to create a lipstick that had the femme fatale factor of velvet with intense pigment and subtle sheen and the sensual, floating feeling of silk.” – Poppy King
Let me start by saying… I have NEVER tried anything like it on my lips before! While this is the
most costly ($50.00 each) lipstick to ever hit my lips, it feels like velvet and silk have graced your pout with absolute perfection.
With very bold pigment, I was surprised to find that it felt so wonderful on my lips. Both colors were so intense, but provided a velvety texture that applied and glided on without dragging across my lips, and the formula left my them hydrated and soft.
I had used both lipsticks on my lips for several hours without feeling the need to apply lipgloss or balm to moisturize them.
Black Tie is a gorgeous deep red shade. It is one of those types of colors that can bump up a look or give you an awesome deep and sultry appeal as well. I especially love that while it is a matte shade, you would never know it, because it is definitely non-drying, unlike other mattes I have tried in the past.
After applying, the lipstick felt very comfortable and lightweight, just like silk. The pigmentation of this color is phenomenal. While it is a shade that some may steer clear of, it is one that would definitely stop traffic dead in its tracks.
The texture is smooth and leaves your lips feeling soft, while giving you that added benefit of empowerment and sultriness.
Star Power is an exclusive Velvet Rope shade for Barney’s New York. It is a honeyed bronze with a metallic finish. Beautiful and seductive — this is a shade that can easily take you from
day to night.
For a daytime look, wear alone on your lips. For a night look, line your lips with a deep brown or neutral brown lip liner and then apply Star Power. It will give your lips a defined look that is definitely to die for!
Star Power is very different from the other shades in the Velvet Rope Collection, as the rest are all matte. But, it definitely stands out on its own — a perfect shade for gorgeous fall lips.
As if the lip colors themselves were not enough, the packaging screams OLD HOLLYWOOD. With its shiny gold lipstick casing that provides luxury at its finest, the packaging itself is just divine. I love that I can easily open and close it without much effort, but it snaps shut and stays shut due to its magnetic closure.
The case was inspired by an original art deco lipstick compact of Poppy’s. It is heavy and sturdy, and will be an absolute masterpiece in any makeup lover’s lipstick collection.
The formulation of the lipsticks (as stated) is awesome. It provided my lips with rich, intense pigment while still giving my lips their own kind of luxuriousness. Staying power was great.
While I did have color transfer when drinking or eating, I was very impressed to find that my lips looked like they had naturally lost color, not like the color was rubbed off.
The lipsticks did leave a stain on my lips, so I did not have to reapply as often; I also like that my lips still felt very soft and looked supple even after the lipsticks had been “kissed off”.
“Including an innovative new ingredient: Silicone Elastomer, Lipsticks from the Velvet Rope Collection glide weightlessly to the lips, requiring only the softest pressure.
Natural waxes Candelilla, Carnauba and Beeswax provide the structure to the stick whilst antioxidant Vitamin E and moisturizing Apricot Oil ensure lips remain soft, nourished and ultra-comfortable. The final magic ingredient is Peppermint Oil, which adds a subtle, clean scent.”
Now, like I stated in the beginning, this is probably the most expensive lipstick that has ever graced my lips. I know many want to know if the price is worth it. Well, if you think silk-to-the
-touch, gorgeous pigment, show-stopping colors and the feeling of luxury on your lips is important… then YES, I do think this lipstick is definitely worth the splurge.
I have tried many, many lipsticks in my years (those who have seen just a snippet of my lipstick collection know it is probably one of my most favorite items when it comes to makeup), but I was not only wowed but taken by the packaging and overall zeal of the Velvet Rope Collection. When it first arrived, I couldn’t stop looking at it for hours… it’s just that amazing!
