The celebrity fragrance and perfume trend continues as nearly every actress, musician and reality star has their own scent. From Jessica Simpson, Halle Berry and Lady Gaga, the list goes on. This phenomena had us wondering whether the true art of perfumery has gone away for good. Luckily the art is still alive and well thanks to a very innovative approach taken by a niche perfumery line called the Olfactive Studio.
Olfactive Studio founder, Celine Verleure
The Olfactive Studio creates fragrances that are inspired by visual art. “Images and perfumes have always been linked,” says founder, Celine Verleure, a 20-year fragrance industry veteran based in Paris. “When we smell a perfume, it gives us images in our heads, like a landscape or a scene.” World-renowned photographers Massimo Vitali, Laurent Segretier, and more teamed up with French-trained perfumers to create scents based on their best works.
The five fragrances are: Lumière Blanche, Autoportrait, Chambre Noire, Still Life, Flashback
I attended the launch event last week and Celine herself took me on a visual and olfactory tour where I tried each of the five new unisex scents as I gazed at the giant-sized photographs each was based on. I loved them all but was partial to the Lumière Blanche Eau de Parfum. It’s a blend of fresh spiciness and milky mildness truly evokes the summer heat as depicted in the photo above.
All five Olfactive Studio fragrances are available at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan, specialty stores nationwide, and on the e-commerce website olfactivestudioUS.com. Each beautiful bottle is paired with a frame-worthy postcard print of the piece that inspired it. $145-$195.
