Here at BeautyStat, we’re pretty excited about Halloween! An excuse to dress up as someone completely different and wear over-the-top makeup and accessories? Count us in! After Wigs.com sent us some Halloween costume ideas with their latest LUXHAIR wig collection, we wanted to create some looks of our own using the new LUXHAIR line! Read on to see what senior editors Nicole Gordon Levine, Erin Sutera and managing editor Theresa Romano come up with in this three part Get The Look Halloween Series.
I knew I wanted to be Queen Ravenna for Halloween as soon as I saw Snow White and the Huntsman. I loved the way the scenes read in both costume and makeup artistry. The Queen’s beauty was so seductive, yet her soul so evil. I began photographing the billboards and ad campaigns for the movie as they were so beautiful to look at. How can I forget the face of Charlize Theron entwined with a raven? Or the previews showing the mirror moving as liquid gold. Or when Charlize comes out of that milk bath…
Check out those smokin’ eyes!
For the look I knew that dark, smoky eyes and a pale lips were a definite. The Queen’s skin showed through in a natural way for most of the movie with highlights of a rather soft, peachy blush. It was Charlize Theron‘s eyes that were captivating, and if I thought I could handle colored contacts in my eyes I would have bought blue lenses for the day.
First, I prepped my skin as I always do using Sunday Riley‘s Good Genes Treatment ($105.00). Once dry, I applied it again for that extra moisture in preparation for the dryer months ahead. Then I mixed my Hourglass Veil Primer SPF 15 ($52.00) with my Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation SPF 15 PA ++ ($62.00) to give me an overall natural and even looking skin tone color. I also patted on a tiny dollop of Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation ($42.00) under my eyes and around my orbital area to act as a concealer; it makes my eye area appear brighter by giving my darker eye area more coverage.
My Face Cosmetics has been a favorite line of mine and their Blingtones Eyeshadow in Black Ice and Purple Haze were perfect shades for my upper lid. I then highlighted my eyes with their Diamonds & Pearls right under my brow bone to show that extra oomph in my brow arch. Next came the sweat-proof, smudge-proof and water-proof mascara and eyeliner from Giorgio Armani‘s Eyes To Kill (yes, pun intended) Collection to top off the dramatic feel of the Queen’s eyes. I lined both the inner and outer rims with the black pencil and even added a touch of Island Violet liner by ARTISTRY along the bottom lashline.
For blush, I used my go-to Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Amused on the apples of my cheeks, and also swept M∙A∙C‘s Vintage Grape Blush Ombre (from the Limited Edition Daphne Guinness Collection) right into the hollows of my cheeks to give them more depth and definition.
Lips needed to remain neutral, so I only penciled them in with M∙A∙C’s Lip Pencil ($15.00) in Spice and made them a bit fuller looking by lining a bit larger than my natural lip line, dotting a bit of Bobbi Brown‘s Lip Gloss ($23.00) in Petal in the center for that extra volume from afar.
The lovely faux ponytail came from the LUXHAIR WOW series in 22″ Pony Fall Extension ($42.95) in a light golden blonde shade from Wigs.com. It was created by Daisy Fuentes and came with very easy-to-apply directions. I felt more like a maiden when I put it on, as I loved having the really long hair extension. I am going to wear this again and again… and again!
All in all, I tried to channel the evil Queen Ravenna, yet it was quite hard to show that emotional angry side of me since I am usually smiling. It’s hard to be the Queen! I do hope you like my go at it though. I will make a braid and wrap the top of my head with it before donning the crown on Halloween! Whatever you decide to be… just have fun with it!
