BeautyStat: You’ve covered so many favorite products over the course of your tenure at Lucky. Since so many great products cross your way, how do you arrive at “what speaks to you”? Any methodologies you use, or tips to share?
Jean Godfrey-June: It’s exactly like…shopping. I get interested in a product because the color’s great, the scent’s great, the package is cool, the promise is appealing…all the same reasons anybody likes a beauty product. It’s definitely not rocket science! Pick what you love.
BeautyStat: Name a few beauty trends you’ve seen that you’re glad happened.
Jean Godfrey-June: Natural/organic awareness in the beauty industry. Beachy hair.
BeautyStat: If there’s one aspect of the beauty industry you could enhance or change, what would it be and why?
Jean Godfrey-June: Every company would use environmentally friendly non-toxic ingredients so consumers (and the world) could stop worrying.
BeautyStat: Name some celebrities whose beauty philosophy and style you can identify with.
Jean Godfrey-June: The celebrity with the best style is Sofia Coppola.
BeautyStat: How many lipsticks do you own?
Jean Godfrey-June: Countless.
BeautyStat: What’s the best aspect of your job at “Lucky”?
Jean Godfrey-June: That I get paid to do what I love—write.
BeautyStat: Do you ever sleep during Fashion Week, and does it still excite you?
Jean Godfrey-June: If I don’t sleep, I can’t function, literally. And yes, fashion still excites me—that’s why I’m in it!
