If you think all red lipcolors are basically the same, well think again! I love a red lip, from glossy to matte and when I discover a new one, I’m dying to try it out. Dita Von Teese, who previously worked with MAC on its Viva Glam campaigns in 2006 and 2007, is working again with the brand to launch a new lipstick shade bearing her name “Dita epitomizes femininity, beauty and sexuality,” said James Gager, creative director of MAC Cosmetics. “She has been a friend of our brand for many years. She is the perfect combination of glamour and femme fatale.”
Cosmetics have long been a passion of Von Teese’s. In 2010, she told WWD: “I want to do my own makeup line, because I feel like things are missing in the world. I’m constantly trying to mix up colors…I love the look of matte, velvety lips. Every girl should have a matte red and a matte fuchsia. And that’s so hard to find these days.”
With her tomato-red Von Teese lipstick, $18, Von Teese is living the dream. “I’ve always loved MAC and we’ve remained close after working together almost 10 years ago for the MAC Viva Glam campaign,” said Von Teese “MAC Cosmetics celebrates individuality and supports people who dare to be different. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to create my signature red lipstick. My MAC Von Teese shade evokes glamour and confidence.” Inspired by the launch of Dita Von Teese’s new book, Your Beauty Mark, her vivid red lipstick is the signature shade for the seductive spirit.
The MAC collaboration isn’t the first time she’s ventured into the cosmetics space. Von Teese had a limited-edition makeup collection, Dita Von Teese Classics, with German-based makeup company Artdeco in 2012. The line was designed as a yearlong collaboration and was called Dita Von Teese Classics. The range included a powder compact, four blushers, a gel eyeliner and brush and pencil eyeliner, as well as 12 individual eye shadows, mascara, false lashes (with and without rhinestones), six lipstick shades, two lip liners, a lip lacquer and four nail polish colors. Packaging was black with vintage boudoir-style detailing and a sketch of the line’s inspiration, along with her name. She’s also done several fragrances with German firm Luxess, which holds the Tom Tailor and Daniela Katzenberger fragrance licenses. Her scents include Erotique, FleurTeese, Rouge and her signature Dita Von Teese fragrance.
