Last night’s 71st Annual Golden Globe awards brought some classic and new makeup and nail trends to light. Breathtaking dresses were offset with either glowy, bronzed skin, pops of color on the lips or smoky eyes. Nails were left neutral with quirky nail art accents, while metallic nails were kept ultra-shiny! Read on to learn how to get the looks at home using some of your favorite cosmetic brands.
“We didn’t want to do the expected red lip to go with her gorgeous Armani black gown,” said Jeanine Lobell. “So we went the softer route. No harsh lines. Instead, I blended colors for dimension.”
Lips: Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in #502 Scarlatto and #509 Boudoir – Jeanine layered #509 Boudoir (a nude rose) on top of #502 Scarlatto (a raspberry rose).
Face: Nars Highlighting Blush in Satellite of Love; Lancôme Translucence Mattifying Silky Press Powder; Jeanine layered both powders in order to highlight Cate‘s defined cheekbones; SK-II Facial Treatment Mask – Jeanine prepped Cate‘s skin with this while she was getting her nails done.
Allison Williams
For Allison Williams‘ Golden Globes red carpet beauty, Avon Global Celebrity Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen created a classic sultry smoky eye to match Williams‘ black and white gown, complemented by a soft pink rose lip. Here’s how to get the look:
Anderson played up Williams‘ baby blue eyes with a classic smokey eye using Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Urban Skyline. She then lined her eyes with Avon Glimmersticks Eye Liner in Blackest Black and coated lashes with Avon Mega Effects Mascara. To complete the look, Lauren applied Avon Ultra Color Absolute Lipstick in Ripe Rose.
Amber Heard
The breathtaking actress, a presenter at the awards ceremony, teamed her midnight blue Atelier Versace dress with a romantic up-do and alluring makeup by Hourglass.
“Amber brought some of her own ideas to the mix,” says makeup artist Matthew VanLeeuwen. “She liked the idea of focusing on sultry chocolate eyes, creamy skin and soft nude lips. I was just bringing out the remarkable geometry and beauty of her face.”
Eyes: Apply the shell shade from the Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Palette as a base color all over the lids. Follow with the bronze shimmer shade from Hourglass Visionaire Eye Shadow Duo in Gypsy applied to the crease and under the eyes. Deepen the bronze with the brown shade from Vol. 6 Eye Palette applied to the outer corner, top and bottom of the lids.

Amy Adams
Amy Adams rocked flawless, bronzed, glowing skin on the red carpet last night. Sollitto applied the NEW Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (COMING FALL 2014) all over Adams’ face. Sollitto stated, “This foundation goes on easily but the finish is very polished. It’s long-wearing, oil-free and lightweight. The best thing is that is gives you a matte finish so you don’t have to dust your face with loose powder. It’s built-in, simple and genius.”
To “catapult” the look into the ‘70s, Sollitto applied a light dusting of Laura Mercier Bronzing Pressed Powder in Matte Bronze. He achieved the “perfect glow” by applying Laura Mercier Crème Cheek Colour in Praline to Adams’ cheeks using his fingers.
“Nudish orange” lips supported the star’s “bronzy glow” with a mixture of Laura Mercier Crème Lip Colour in Discretion and Tangerine, because the customized shade “supported Adams’ bronzy glow, but didn’t compete with it for attention.”
Reese Witherspoon
Neutral lips and bright, sultry eyes were the main focus of Witherspoon‘s look. Quynh first used Laura Mercier Rouge Nouveau Weightless Lip Colour in Play and swept Laura Mercier Lip Glacé in Bellini on top.
For eyes, he mixed Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colours in Sand Glow and Cocoa, and applied the color from the inside of her eyelid, blending it towards the outer lid. She then applied Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Fire Glow from the lash line to the crease using the Laura Mercier All Over Eye Colour Brush. She then blended the shadow using the Laura Mercier Eye Crease Brush.
For added depth and dimension, Quynh added Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Earth Glow to the outer crease. She smudged both Illuminating Eye Colours to the lower lash line, using the Laura Mercier Smudge Brush. Finally, she rimmed Reese’s eyes with Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Brown Copper and finished the look with two coats of Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara in Black.
Sofia Vergara
“With my dress so elegant and my necklace so bold (and heavy!), I wanted to keep my hair and makeup simple and classic,” said Vergara.
It was important to start off with a good base to last the night. COVERGIRL truBLEND Foundation in M6 which is super-lightweight and blendable. On top, a light dusting of powder to set the look and a bit of rosy color for the apples of the cheeks with Clean Glow Blush in Roses.
Vergara’s dress and jewels were the center of attention, so the hair and makeup had to be balanced. Vergara loves the drama of a cat-eye, so she used a brown liner as opposed to black with Bombshell Liner in Chocolate Kiss to create the look. She then used Bombshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess to give eyes a little sparkle. She finished the eye look by swiping on Bombshell Volume Mascara on the top and bottom lashes to add volume and intensity.
Vergara went with a bold red lip using LipPerfection Lip Color in Flame.
Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o was turning heads on the red carpet! She made sure her nails complemented her bright dress with the help of Deborah Lippmann. To treat the hands, Deborah:
Deborah applied a layer of Gel Lab Base Coat to make the polish last twice as long as a traditional polish, without harsh gel lights. Deborah applied one coat of Naked, a sheer, clean bare beige lacquer.
