The late Kevyn Aucoin taught me everything I know about great contouring, as I read his books to learn various makeup application techniques. They were truly step-by-step instructions that I found easy-to-learn and grasp. With that being said, I was so delighted to try Lancôme Paris’ new Blush Subtil Palette All-in-One Contour, Blush and Highlighter ($42.00) — it comes with an instructional brochure combined with easy-to-follow pictures that help one create a sculpted-looking face. These are the instructions I used when applying the three different shades as explained by celebrity makeup artist Matthew Van Leeuwen (who has worked with Jennifer Lopez and Mariska Hargitay):
How To Use:
Sweep deepest contour shade in the hollow under the cheekbone, running to just above the ear
Using the medium blush shade, smile to start at the “apple” of your cheek, and blend to hairline
Brush the lightest highlighter shade on the upper cheekbone in a “C” shape, by starting a top the cheekbone, blending around the outer corner of the eye, and onto the brow bone
I used Rose Flush as it was made for fair skin tones; there are also 5 other options: Nectar Lace (Fair Skin Tones), Framboise Flirt and Pêche Savvy (Medium Skin Tones), Plum Elegance (Olive Skin Tones) and Rouge Allure (Chocolate Skin Tones).
I used my own brushes, but Lancôme Paris offers a double-ended Cheek & Contour Brush #25 ($40.00) that I know would have saved me from using three separate ones, yet it was not on hand. I love contouring my face while still looking natural, so I certainly hope you will try Lancôme Paris three-in 1 blush! Available at Lancôme counters nationwide and on lancome-usa.com and I spotted it on Sephora.com today as well!
