(Review & Photos): Dolce & Gabbana Summer/Fall 2011 Makeup Collection - The Limited Edition Animalier Bronzer and Lipstick

There are collections that are designed to make you stop and stare, as though you would in a museum. The richness of the vision, packaging and the jewel-like heft of the products by Dolce & Gabbana for Fall 2011 fall into this category.

When I first received the lipsticks and bronzer — the Animalier collection — I went into a bit of a shock. The packaging, the velvet case and enclosed dusting brush with gold handle was more regal than the Medici era. It almost seemed that the line had commissioned a jeweler to work on the packaging.

The Rouge a Levres Satine finish lipstick above is a beautiful matte nude color and imparts a distinct sensuality while looking as glamorous as ScarJo. This adds both shine and volume to the lips. This is so part of the summer look that boasts shiny, almost nude lips and a cocoa smokey eye that looks refreshingly natural. The lipstick retails for $30 each.

The highlight of the limited edition collection includes the Animalier Bronzer that looks too good to wear. I was reluctant to swirl my brush over this insanely beautiful creature, evoking the jungles of a magnificent Africa. This is a limited edition bronzer that retails for $50.

The texture of the bronzer is extremely fine…like gossamer. It has peachy undertones and makes for a good dusting along the cheekbones, and all over if you want a slight glow or illumination.

So, what are your thoughts on this limited edition collection for the summer? As nudes and naturals become the “it” colors for the year, I’m wondering if the red lipstick should be placed on the back burner. But then again, if you have beautiful skin, you can pretty much pair any lip color with any outfit.
