If you’re a beauty junkie like me, you’re undoubtedly aware of the ongoing controversy and confusion around which skin care ingredients are safe. There is alarming news about dyes, parabens, mercury and other questionable substances that can be found in our cleansers, creams and so on. Based on a review of the ingredient labels of leading products, it appears that women may be exposed to a range of potentially harmful ingredients or irritants (e.g. dyes, parabens, and synthetic fragrances) as the result of their daily skin care regimen. Are we happy about this? Not on your life!
Enter Puristics Totally Ageless, a line of anti-aging skin care products “made from recognizable ingredients that are free of potentially harmful ingredients.” The Puristics Totally Ageless Anti-Aging skin care line was developed without adding potentially harmful ingredients, fragrances or toxins at any step along the way. Puristics Totally Ageless products are formulated mainly from “natural, plant-based ingredients, identified by names that are generally recognizable to the consumer.” Some of these include: sugar beets, safflower seed oil, palm butter, tapioca starch, beeswax, rice bran wax and honeysuckle extract.
The line is now available in supermarkets and drugstores nationwide and the price point — $19.99-$21.99 — is very reasonable. But how do the products actually work? Here’s my take:
Puristics Totally Ageless Advanced Skin Rejuvenating Lotion:
A creamy, lightweight formula you can use day or night, under moisturizer/sunscreen or night cream. The product went on easily and absorbed well. Although it claimed to “reduce fine lines and wrinkles” after two weeks of use, I did not notice a change in that department. But it is still a good, all around, versatile cream to be used in conjunction with other creams and treatments.
Puristics Totally Ageless Night Recovery Cream:
I found this cream kind of gummy and paste-like — it did not go on well and left a noticeable residue on my skin the next day.
Puristics Totally Ageless SPF 15 Daily Anti-Aging Sunscreen Lotion:
Had a nice feel but SPF 15 is not nearly enough sun protection in my book. Dermatologists recommend an SPF of at least 30, even on a cloudy or winter’s day; I never go out with less, and in the summer, I up it to 70 or so.
Puristics Totally Intensive Eye Treatment:
Rich, emollient cream for the delicate undereye area. Loved it as a night treatment but it’s too rich to use during the day; it does not perform well with concealer or foundation. Still, for nighttime use, it’s a winner and compares favorably with much more expensive products of its kind.
