(Giveaway) The Allure of Gold Makeup: Estee Lauder Extravagant Gold, Holiday 2010

One of my all time favorite poems is Robert Frost’s, “Nothing Gold Can Stay:

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

But, with all due respect to Frost, we’re here to prove that gold indeed can and HAS staying power.

We live in an age where everything is gilded: from the columns of Dubai’s Burj al Arab hotel (clothed in pure 24k gold), to the borders found in the Indian silk sarees. The entire world, it seems, craves glitz, glamor, GOLD.

This, naturally, applies also to makeup, and one of the palettes we’re coveting this season is Estee Lauder’s Extravagant Gold:

This is one of the palettes found in the Extravagant New Pure Color line, created by Tom Pecheux, Creative Makeup Director for EL. We love Hilary Rhoda as the face of the campaign, wearing a necklace of what looks like heavy, linked ingots:

The Extravagant Gold eyeshadow palette is what we’re focusing on this post.

The new Pure Color Five Color Eyeshadow Palette houses shades like Surreal Violet and Golden. To get maximum mileage from the palette, apply the lightest shade on the eyes first as base, (the lower left hand side) and then lower left shade (in Golden) from lash to crease and blend the upper right and middle shades (medium brown and deep brown) together and then highlight browbone with upper left (lightest) shade to get the LOOK:

Obviously, this look is very subtle on darker skin

This palette retails for $42, and we think it’s a perfect, flattering shade for holiday parties. Get your EL fix at counters or on www.esteelauder.com before they’re gone. We love pairing this look with the EL Extravagant Berry lipstick, which has beautiful sparkle flecks and stays on for hours.

Tell us, will you purchase Estee Lauder’s Extravagant Gold this year? What will you be rocking to holiday parties?

Also, we have ONE Extravagant Gold Palette worth $42 to give away to one lucky reader. Simply enter a comment below to be considered.
