Aside form the beautiful gowns, you couldn’t help but notice the gorgeous hair of the ladies who walked the red carpet at last nights Oscars. The theme of the night was easy, un-fussy hair and looks that we could create and wear ourselves!
You can never go wrong with a chignon. The hairstyle is effortless yet oh-so-glamourous. Gone Girl actress Rosamud Pike had hair pulled back but allowed for a some texture. Styled exclusively with Oscar Blandi products by Kylee Rae Heath who stated, “It was key to have it look easy and untried. We wanted to create tons of texture.”
Get the look:
Starting on damp hair she sprayed Oscar Blandi Protein Mist throughout the hair. Then applied Oscar Blandi Hair Lift Mousse and combed the product through. Next, she blew her hair out creating volume and movement. Before using a Sultra 3/4 inch sized barrel and a 1inch sized marcel iron to create texture, she sprayed Oscar Blandi Dry Styling Heat Protect Spray. Once the texture was in place, she used a comb to section from behind the left ear, over the head to the top of the right ear and pulled the back section into a ponytail. Then the front section was pulled back to meet the ponytail securing with bobby pins. She sprayed the look into place and twisted the ponytail into a bun and pinned it. Then finished the look with the Pronto Lacca Medium Hold Hairspray and applied the Polish Glossing Creme to the short hair of her undercut. (Ulta.com for Oscar Blandi products.)
Another actress to don the chignon was Felicity Jones. Jones’ hair was inspired by her custom Alexander McQueen dress, a Victorian aesthetic in pearls – very ladylike and feminine. She added a fun wispy bang to her look. To finish off the style, celebrity hairstylist Tommy Bucket sprayed a mist of Garnier Full Control Anti-Humidity Aerosol Hair Spray to tame any frizzies.
The ponytail was also a hot trend for the night, maybe because of the rainy forecast or because of its easy style. The always beautiful Jennifer Lopez pulled her hair back into a tight ponytail leaving out loose wavy hair. Her hair, by Lorenzo Martin for L’Oreal Paris, was gathered into a high ponytail and secured with an elastic with metal hooks on each end to keep the ponytail high. He finished the look off with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Weather Control Hairspray to combat the rainy weather. He wanted to “keep her big beautiful dress the star of the show, so her hairstyle was simple and chic.”
Jenna Dewan’s stylist Derek Williams, wanted to create a more sleek ponytail and used KMS California FREESHAPE hot flex crème and blew it dry straight using a flat brush. He used a flat iron and ran a dime sized amount of KMS California SILKSHEEN polishing serum. Lastly he sprayed Jenna’s ponytail with KMS California HAIRSTAY dry xtreme hairspray to give it movement.
“It girl” and star of Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota Johnson wore her ponytail with bangs in an easy pony that we could recreate ourselves for a night on the town or casual day out. Redken celebrity colorist Tracey Cunningham Tracey used the no-ammonia Shades EQ Cream to create Dakota’s lowlights. Tracey finished with a glaze, Shades EQ Gloss, to provide an added healthy shine.
Easy breezy wavesOld Hollywoog glamour has always been applauded at the Oscars. Emma Stone’s long bob, or “lob” as it’s been dubbed, was reminiscent of a silent film star. The loose waves were paired with a deep side part and one side twisted back and secured with a few bobby pins to create asymmetry.
Margot Robbie’s long bob was blunt cut and chic. The long bob is the way to go if you’re looking to try out a short ‘do without chopping off too much! Campora used Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Primer Style Prep and Garnier Fructis Full & Plush Mega Full Thickening Lotion on wet hair. He created a deep side part and when hair was 80% dry added mousse and Granier Fructis Mervelous Oil Frizz Defy to smooth ends, followed by flat ironing hair.To end, he added texture with Constructed Texture Tease and Extreme Control Humidity Aerosol Hair Spray.
Reese Witherspoon is always the epitome of glamour at any award show she attends. Her 1940’s waves were a modern take on a classic. Hairstylist Adir Abergel, using John Freida products, gave the Best Actress Nominee a deep middle part that transitioned into soft cascading waves for the red carpet tonight. “I wanted to play up the duality of texture and create a look that had strength and softness at the same time,” said Adir.
Known for her ever-changing hair styles and colors, actress Scarlett Johansson was a standout with her edgy haircut, shaved on the sides and longer on the top. Singer Faith Hill showed up with an easy short haircut as well. There’s nothing better than a style that takes little to no effort! Both ladies are stunning in their short haircuts.
