If you have ever worn extensions then you must know the risks of the damage it can do to your hair. Case in point: Everyone has been talking about the recent pictures of Naomi Campbell that shows her balding hair in the front (see image below), which has been cited as alopecia and excessive use of hair extensions. As drastic and devastating as it is, there is hope! A new line of extensions called Jazzy Hair was noted by Allure Magazine in 2009 as the #1 luxury hair extension brand; the brand has rolled out a new line of ‘green’ products as well that extend the life of hair extensions and improves the hair while in the scalp.
The product line Little Luxuries is the creation from hair guru Velma Trayham, who is the mastermind behind the top wigs and extensions worn by celebrities such as platinum recording artist Trina, Meagan Good, Sister 2 Sister Magazine‘s editor-in-chief Jamie Foster Brown, actress Tamala Jones and many more. She is now introducing her eco-friendly product line Little Luxuries Moisture Lock System, which is 100% guaranteed to increase the lifespan of all wigs and extensions. Read on to find out tips on how to keep your extensions looking their best!
The first thing is to identify the fact that women are getting hair extensions that are put on with glue. There are numerous of hair extension systems that if applied correctly could actually grow your natural hair instead of making one bald. It is imperative to understand the importance of maintaining your natural hair under your hair extensions or wigs. Here are tips to prevent hair damage and hair loss from and during weave-wearing:
– Go to a stylist, please do not attempt the least expensive route and weave your own hair — it will cost you in the end. Leave this job to the experts
– Make sure that your stylist does not braid your hair too tight, especially around your edges. If braids are done properly it will actually help your hair to grow
– Invest in quality hair, preferably luxury Indian hair extensions that are very light in weight. Most cheap and inexpensive hair can be too heavy and pull out your natural hair

– Wash your hair and condition it. Use scalp treatments to keep the hair follicles open and healthy.Wash at least once a week. Always remember to use hair product with great health benefits — free of sulfates, parabens and sodium chloride, which are all harsh chemicals that strip the hair of its natural moisture
– Maintain your hair extensions; after having your hair extensions in for 3 weeks, return to your stylist for maintenance and upkeep
There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing a lace front or a full lace wig, if applied correctly. A lot of people that are applying these lace wigs are not knowledgeable in the nonsurgical hair replacement industry. Lace wigs get their name in the cosmetic world while there are people that experience hair loss due to medical conditions, like alopecia, and call them a cranial prosthesis unit, which is where the fashion trend of lace wigs started from. Some people wear the lace wigs and forget all about their natural hair. Here are tips to prevent a Naomi Campbell situation due to excessive use of full lace wigs:
– Use a scalp protectant around the perimeters of the hairline where the glue will be placed

– Don’t shave your edges to wear a lace wig unless you are undergoing medical related hair loss. If your edges are thick and healthy do not shave your edges to temporarily wear a wig for fashion. Most people literally shave their edges to wear a lace wig because if the lace wig is applied to a bald surface, the application will last from 4-6 weeks — sometimes even longer. If you have full edges and make the decision to wear a wig, then glue will be placed at the edges of the hairline, which could lead to balding around the edges
– Don’t put any glue directly on your hair edges, but create a hairline half of an inch above your natural line to prevent damages to your edges
