I can’t wait for spring! And not just for the warmer weather… I’m talking Spring 2014 makeup trends. I attended Maybelline & Allure Magazine’s Master Class, along with about 20 other beauty bloggers.
Experts from Maybelline and Allure told us about the trends they saw backstage at the fashion shows in NYC, Paris and Milan. Key trends to expect this spring include: white eyeshadow, orange lipstick, metallic eye shadows, gold fever, artful eyes, bronze skin and bedazzled looks.
One of Maybelline’s makeup artists, Gabe Almodovar, took us through 3 keys trends using Maybelline products.
Everyone was gifted with a Maybelline makeup kit, chock full of everything you need to create the looks shown. We were encouraged to try out the looks while he demonstrated them on the models.
White eyeshadow is a strong trend! To show that every skintone can wear this trend, he demonstrated the look on an African American model. He used Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Too Cool, a metallic white cream shadow.
He started his application in the center of the lid and blended upwards to the brow bone, but not on the actual brow bone (which is what we always do to highlight). He then applied a pink shimmer near the crease of the eye; added mascara and was done.
Springtime orange lips take center stage! We were given two orange lipsticks: Electric Orange and Vibrant Mandarin.
Gabe recommended applying the lipstick directly from the tube, then tracing lips with a nude lip pencil to create a matte border around lips — this will keep lipstick in check and/or create symmetry if lips are uneven. He learned this tip from Kevyn Aucoin.
Metallic eyes get a new twist! First, Gabe applied Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal 24 HR Cream Gel Eyeshadow in Gold Rush to the center lid, followed by Breaking Bronze Pure Pigment Shadow on top.

Then, he blended Improper Copper on the outer corners of the eye; Improper Copper was also applied along the lash line. He then curled lashes and added mascara to upper lashes.
I thought the Gold Fever trend was the most interesting. They showed a model with metallic, golden brows! To achieve this look, the brows were first bleached then covered in glue so the loose pigment and glitter could adhere to it. It is such a striking look. I loved it.
The Bronze Skin trend is probably the most wearable trend right off the runways. The Artful Eye takes skill to create, but it looks fabulous.
The Bedazzled Trend is also tough to wear, but you could adapt it for everyday by using crystals as accents in the inner and/or outer corners of the eye.
