When I received the sleek lucite box from Clinique containing six 8-hour eye color (or read, shadows), I was intrigued by the “Ice Ice Baby” effect. The eye colors looked like lip glosses and too cool for school. Plus, Clinique promises that it lasts for eight hours — a really big claim.
Beauty brands are veering towards long-wearing makeup now more than ever. New York Color launched a 16 Hour Smooch-Proof Lip Stain that does have staying power (at least 2-3 hours if not more); M.A.C. introduced ProLongwear last year, and now Clinique’s 8 Hour Eye Color can join in the ranks of “long wearing cosmetics” Guinness Book of World Records.
The Lid Smoothies Look Like a Million Dollars
A die-hard packaging junkie, I was impressed by the creamy, crease-resistant lid smoothies. Clear tubes so you can see the color, and a silver tip so the product can be applied directly on your lids is a big plus. The silver tip also gives your lids a cooling effect that is completely unique (you really feel your lids are frosted after using the tube). The only other product I know that does this is M.A.C.’s Magically Cool Liquid Powder.
The Colors Wear for a Long Time (They’re a Bit Hard to Get Off)
The colors are supposed to be long-wearing cream shadows and an innovative cream to powder formula, but I felt the texture was more like a liquid eyeshadow (just like CoverGirl’s Intense Shadow Blast Eye Color). What I especially love about this eye color is that it has antioxidants and ingredients made to nourish the skin, all while imparting a cooling effect through the metalized applicator (your skin will do a refreshing double take once you apply the eye color).

The Lid Smoothies Have Beneficial Ingredients
These beneficial ingredients include Vitamin E, Broccoli, Carrot, Blueberry and Spinach. In an eye color. Pretty wild, if you ask me…kudos, Clinique! There is also cucumber, aloe vera, and caffeine to refresh the appearance of tired eyes, and collagen boosting peptides to smooth the skin texture.
The Applicator is Super Cool
I squeezed the product tube as instructed and the eye color slid effortlessly on my lids, and I used my fingertips to blend until I received the desired pigment intensity. How you blend the makeup is up to you. There are 12 colors to choose in all their frosty glory, from Sassy-fras to the more pale violet Born Freesia. Retailing in August for $19.50 each, this line is a must have for those who crave deeply pigmented frosty shades with a unique cooling effect.
