We recognize that hair is a huge part of our beauty routines: every woman’s crowning glory is her treasure. Most often, that’s what people first notice — hence the mammoth size of the industry, and documentaries like Chris Rock’s Good Hair.
We’ve covered the subject in painstaking detail on BeautyStat over the past years, from breaking the news of the Brazilian Blowout controversy to suggesting safer at-home or in salon alternatives. Curly hair, straight hair, problem hair or trends — we’ve got it covered from accessories to feathering extensions.
So, in the spirit of being a true beauty generalist, we’re shifting our contest spotlight from makeup to hair (fear not, makeup junkies, we’ll be having another one for you soon!).
Here’s what we need from you for our first ever hair contest:
1) Send us a picture of your best “hair” work, whether it’s braids, extensions, keratin treatment, accessories etc. to CONTEST@BEAUTYSTAT.COM. We will be judging the photos on aesthetics and the level of skill.
So, for example, you could send us a look where you have your hair beautifully styled and blow dried, like this:
What makes this photo so special is that it’s not bedhead: it shows it’s been professionally styled and curled. List the steps you took to achieve a look like this.
You could also simply opt to send us a picture with your feathering extensions, like the one above. Or perhaps you have a thing for braids, in which case, why not imitate this lovely look that Jessica Alba wore to the Oscars in 2010:
Choose a look that people will be inspired by and that’s not as simple as running a comb or your fingers through your hair. Skill, innovation and creativity are what we’re looking for.
That said, do not dismiss the sleek ponytail (remember the post we did on Bridal Hair Trends)?
Once you’ve sent the pictures and listed (very briefly) the steps and products you used to create the look, we will pick the top 10 finalists and ask for your vote in Part Two of the contest.
The winner will receive a huge gift basket filled with $200 worth of products, courtesy of Redken.
